Victory for Central Interstate Staff and Patients

december-12-march-on-the-bossWith just a few weeks’ notice, staff and patients at Kaiser Interstate Medical Center were surprised to learn about management's plans to close the facility's cafeteria on December 21, which would have eliminated jobs and basic needs for patients and their caregivers.SEIU members at Central Interstate immediately sprang into action, initiating a petition that received almost 800 signatures from Kaiser staff, patients, and their caregivers. We delivered the petition to management, and as a result, management agreed postpone the closure of the cafeteria. A bargaining team and planning committee have been developed to explore options to retain SEIU café jobs at Interstate and provide food service for employees and patients at the campus.
