SEIU Members Are More Protected

SEIU and other labor unions negotiated a binding agreement with OHSU that extends extra protections to union members once the OHSU-Legacy merger is approved. We know that if the merger is successful that our union, SEIU Local 49, has these agreements with OHSU to help our members!

SEIU Member Non-Union Worker
PAY YES! Your pay will stay the same or increase NO guaranteed protections
BENEFITS YES! Your medical benefits will stay the same or improve NO guaranteed protections
PROTECTION FROM LAY-OFF POST MERGER 12 months 6 months
BENEFITS IF LAID OFF YES! If layoffs should occur between 12 and 24 months after the acquisition, union members will have 6 months of pay and medical/dental insurance coverage, and access to recall and training opportunities NO guaranteed protections
TRAINING OPPORTUNITIES & ADVANCED EDUCATION OHSU will contribute $10 million annually to SEIU and other union education trusts, allowing SEIU members to access language classes, tuition assistance, and free career development built around advancing people currently working in healthcare NO guaranteed opportunities
ALL WORKING CONDITIONS OHSU will recognize the SEIU contract and sit down to negotiate a new contract. YOU have a voice in your working conditions. NO guaranteed protections

Our voices matter, make sure yours is heard!

Our union reached out to Legacy, and they refused to respond. But OHSU sat down, negotiated, and signed an agreement with SEIU and other unions. We want to send a message to all employers who are looking to merge and to OHA: respecting healthcare workers is step one to quality patient care. Let’s support OHSU and demand that the impact on workers should be part of the review process.
